Starting from 2026, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation will donate HK$10 million to the Faculty of Medicine and the Gerald Choa Neuroscience Institute at The Chinese University of Hong Kong to support a research project on “Plasma Proteogenomics of Cerebrovascular Disease (CVD) in Chinese”. The donation will be disbursed over five years, with HK$2 million allocated annually until 2030.
Cerebrovascular disease (stroke) places a significant health burden on China and the wider Asian region. With an ageing population, the number of stroke cases continues to rise, while effective biomarkers for assessing individual risk remain limited. This research focuses on stroke subtypes prevalent among the Chinese population, aiming to advance biomarker development for early detection and personalised treatment, while addressing the underrepresentation of Chinese populations in proteogenomic studies.
Through this contribution, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation aims to advance medical research, enhance the prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, and improve overall health outcomes and quality of life across Asia.
