With the severe COVID-19 situation, there is surging demand for COVID-19 testing in the community. Sino Group (the ‘Group’) and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’) are donating 280,000 sets of rapid antigen test kits, and the 18 district branches of Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (‘DAB’) together with the Group’s volunteer team will help distributing the test kits to the underprivileged starting next week, to combat the pandemic.
Hon TAM Yiu-chung, GBM, GBS, JP, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region deputies to the National People’s Congress remarked, ‘The fifth wave of the pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to Hong Kong, affecting all walks of life, especially the underprivileged. At this critical moment, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Sino Group and NTFCF for their concerted support for underprivileged people in the community. I believe that as long as every one of us works together, the pandemic will end soon and everyone will be able to return to a normal life again.’
Mr Daryl Ng, SBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of Sino Group and Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, said ‘The new wave of the pandemic is particularly challenging. Recently, there is a surge in demand for COVID-19 testing in the community. The distribution of Rapid Antigen Test kits hopes to bring extra protection under the current preventive measures. We would like to thank DAB for their prompt arrangement, together with the colleagues from Sino’s volunteer team, who are working to deliver the test kits to people in need within the shortest time. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the medical professionals, frontline and district volunteers who have been working tirelessly to keep our community safe during this period. We encourage the community to come together to fight COVID-19 together, and the best way to achieve this is through community-wide vaccination. For those yet to be vaccinated, I appeal to you to seek medical advice and get vaccinated as soon as possible.’
Ms Starry Lee, SBS, JP, Chairwoman of Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, remarked, ‘I would like to thank Sino Group and NTFCF for their timely support to help people in need access rapid testing kits at home. Not only can this alleviate the additional financial burden from purchasing COVID-19 test kits, but it can also lower the chance of crowds gathering due to the long queues outside COVID-19 testing centres and relieve the pressure on these facilities. Volunteers from the DAB will join hands with Sino Caring Friends to deliver the test kits to the underprivileged as early as next week.’
